Esau Jenkins Village

Johns Island, South Carolina

Named in honor of beloved Johns Island community champion Esau Jenkins, this landmark project was developed in partnership with the Sea Island Comprehensive Care Center and Ward Mungo Companies.  Esau Jenkins Village introduces 72 brand-new, high-quality homes  designed exclusively for active adults aged 62+ across the scenic Lowcountry of South Carolina. Esau Jenkins Village offers 61 modern one-bedroom and 11 spacious two-bedroom residences, each crafted for comfort, accessibility, and true one-level living. At the heart of the community, residents enjoy a beautifully designed amenity center featuring on-site professional management, a vibrant multi-purpose gathering room, a fully equipped fitness center, computer workspace, meandering walking trails, and an array of inviting social spaces that foster connection, wellness, and creativity. A shining example of what visionary collaboration can achieve, Esau Jenkins Village stands as a model public-private partnership. Powered by more than 10 coordinated funding sources, totaling $25.9 million, and supported across four levels of government, the development brings together the City of Charleston, Charleston County, the State of South Carolina, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Community Development. Key financial partners—including PNC Bank, Citi Community Capital, SC Community Loan Fund, the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston, and private equity investors—played a vital role in making this transformative community a reality.
